This is an unusual shot for me, an almost romantic garden photo (in the art sense not in the icky Hallmark sense) One disadvantage with my camera is that there is no way of telling how the depth of field is going to turn out by looking through the viewfinder so it is a little bit of a crap shoot. As with all cameras a wide open aperture gives a very narrow one and a closed right down one gives a much bigger one but beyond that the only thing that helps is practice and familiarity with the equipment. I think that I liked this shot because the end result is almost exactly what I pictured in my mind before pressing the shutter.
Of course with a cheaper point and shoot camera you get to see the end result on the viewscreen before shooting but the out of focus background always looks harsher and more chaotic due to the much smaller sensor.
This was shot at about 8.30AM US CT and would have benefitted from being shot a little earlier to lose the hard shadow beneath the allium bud but, other than that, I’m pretty pleased with this one. Who knows maybe I’m getting soft in my old age and there will not be the last romantic garden photo that I post here.
Camera: Nikon d40x This was shot at ISO 400 with the camera noise reduction on.
