This is a part of a little side project that I’m working on which is to get about 15 – 20 good minimalist holiday themed images for a giveaway. This one of Christmas tree lights won’t make the final cut but a better composed one along a similar lines just might.
Just in case anyone is interested it was shot in daylight with the Christmas Lights turned on and with the exposure turned down a lot. A wide aperture, 120mm lens and close in shooting was used to put only the front light in focus. The circles of light are the bokeh effect caused by the out of focus lights. Generally speaking I prefer a smooth bokeh but the disk effect is right for this type of shot.
