Minimalist photography tends to bring to mind shiny clean surfaces, ultra high definition, crisp lines and well differentiated tones. This image was an experiment to see if the minimalist feel would be destroyed by introducing an older grainier look and a hint of sepia toning to the image. It was a down and dirty piece of editing taking all of about 45 seconds so please don’t judge the work too harshly!
Here is the same image with noise reduced and contrast fairly high.
Is the modern finish more or less minimalist?
I think that the top image doesn’t hit the brain as any less minimal than the bottom one.
Sometimes the ‘clean’ approach can be very limiting and I think that a grainy or rough image can impart depth absent in the antiseptic, simplistic ‘designer’ minimalism that surrounds us.
