Future Blog Plans
Right, here we go again I’m afraid. As you may or may not be aware I’ve been doing some experimenting to try to find the best way to work this blog and Google+ (where I spend way too much time) into a cohesive, sensible whole.
Just feeding posts through from Google plus to here semi automatically is OK but it has led to a photograph/word ratio that is not right for this blog. I do know of several people at least though, who come here to see the Google+ stuff specifically. The following, possibly ultimate solution could possibly please everyone – including me:
I’m going to feed everything through from Google+ but the vast majority won’t hit the front page – it will all be available under the Google Plus button on the menu bar below the header. The occasional more lengthy piece will find its way onto the front page but the default will be to bypass it. In other words, if the post just consists of a photograph and a single line of commentary it will not be on the front page.
The people most affected will be those who just use the site feed as now the short image based posts will no longer appear on it. If that is a big problem let me know and I’ll set up a feed for those posts only. I don’t think it will be though, which is why I’m not setting up the feed now. The subscriber number has in fact gone down slightly since the entries became more numerous but more image oriented.
I will aim to go back to posting around two reasonably substantial posts a week on the front page and as many as a couple of dozen posts could appear under the Google+ tab.
This change feels right somehow and doesn’t have the feel of an experiment as things have done up until now. It should represent the best of all worlds.
