Integration and an Apology
This is a quick note by way of both an explanation and an apology. If anyone received about twenty posts in the space of a few minutes yesterday that was not intentional – it was ineptitude on my part. As you probably know, I’ve been active on Google’s new social media platform Google for the past month or so. What you may not know is that I’ve been trying to find a way to integrate my postings and activity there with my activity here. Yesterday I was working on just that but neglected to turn a couple of switches off so to speak, especially the ones that stop my posts being distributed off this, the MP101, website. This must have been doubly irritating seeing as my lack of activity here over the past couple of months.
The answer to my prayers came yesterday with the release of a bit of software that basically allows what I do on G+ to be ported over to here more or less automatically. This is great because it is really hard to run two separate blogging operations, one or other will always end up taking second place – I think that is just the way we are wired. Now I can put most content out on both platforms and readers can use whichever appeals to them more. There will be some stuff that goes out just on Google plus and some that only goes out here. This for example is only going out here because it wouldn’t make sense on my Google Plus account just as a ramble about a list I manage there wouldn’t make a lot of sense to readers here. My longer essay type articles will probably just appear here and the more throwaway one sentence type posts will probably find a home on Google. Bottom line, if you want just writing and images without a lot of interactions or the social type stuff here is probably good whereas if you want to read other opinions and follow longer conversations and don’t mind a little more banter then G+ may be the way forward. I have always thought that those who do well with the internet are those that are prepared to go to where their audience are, even if the audience is not all in the same place.
Immediately after I post this I am going to look into the feeds and email lists to make sure that they only broadcast once a day and not every time something appear on this site and again apologies to anyone who’s inbox I assaulted yesterday.
If anyone is reading this who blogs on a self hosted WP setup and wants to integrate Google plus this is the place to check out:
It is a plugin by Daniel Treadwell Currently I am running the free version which has a link back to the sales page at the bottom of each imported post but have paid the $10 for the one without the link – I just haven’t got around to installing it yet.
