I rotated this photo of allium leaves counter clockwise to make for a more interesting composition. In addition I want the viewer to see the image as an abstraction and this rotation stops the brain from locking onto the subject matter. Obviously the monochrome was essential – the green would have been a bit of a giveaway.
This approach focuses the attention on the shapes and tones as opposed to the object. I increased the contrast and added some black in using the appropriate Adobe Lightroom 3 slider.
It is not a high resolution image as it was shot with my Canon A3100 IS Poershot using my favorite 2 megapixel setting. This setting is meant ot be used in low light but makes a great point and shoot setting for most conditions. As I’ve mentioned before, I tend to use the Canon as a sort of photographic sketchbook and will often redo interesting shots with a DSLR.
